CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL OF NEW
ENGLAND

started its Fifth Season with a concert featuring chamber music of Clara & Robert Schumann on Sunday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. at St Paul's Church in Brookline.

Featured in the concert were two exceptional young cellists, Mikhail Veselov, from St. Petersburg, Russia, and Ying-Jun Wei from Wu Han Conservatory of Music, China.

Mikhail performed Clara Schumann's Piano Trio in G minor Op.17 with Lilia Muchnik, violin and Ellina Blinder, piano. Click here to listen to their performance.

Ying-Jun performed Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio in F Major Op. 80 together with CMFoNE guest musician Alexey Shabalin, violin and CMFoNE staff musician Tanya Kodinsky, piano.

MAY 10 CONCERT AT THE FIRST CHURCH IN BOSTON

featured world renowned pianist Victor Rosenbaum

Mr. Rosenbaum performed Antonin Dvořák's piano quintet in A Major "Dumka" with Lilia Muchnik, violin, Anna Korsunsky, violin, Suzanne Polk, cello and Rebecca Strauss, viola. Also featured in the concert were an exceptional young cellist, Ying Jun Wei and CMFoNE pianist Tanya Kodinsky.

DECEMBER 14, concert

featured two world renowned musicians

Leslie Parnas, cello and Yuri Mazurkevich, violin, performed Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio with Tanya Kodinsky, piano on Sunday, December 14 at St. Paul's Church in Brookline.

Amanda Wang, violist, a First Prize Winner of the 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition performed Zoltan Kodaly's Serenade for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 12 together with Lilia Muchnik and Anna Korsunsky.

Olga Bykhovsky, mezzo soprano performed Robert Schumann's Lieder with Tanya Kodinsky, piano.

CONGRATULATIONS TO
SERGEY ANTONOV,

gold medal winner of the 13th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.

Sergey Antonov, one of 196 musicians from 13 countries, gave a stellar, standing-ovation performance in the final round of Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor. Along with the cash award he will receive a special prize from competition sponsor Toyota Corporation: a 15 city concert tour in Asia. Also in his bright future is a five year contract with the Moscow Philharmonic, as well as professional management of his career.

ARABESQUE WINDS

2008 ICMEC GRAND PRIZE WINNER

performed in Boston on March 15, 2009.

Recognized for their fresh, energetic, and interactive performances, the Arabesque Winds are the recent winners of the 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. In what the judges described as “an astounding performance” at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the group was awarded with the Grand Prize out of over 70 international ensembles. In addition, the group has won the Harvard Musical Association’s 2009 Arthur W. Foote Prize, awarded to young musicians on the verge of professional careers. They performed music by Eugène Bozza, Samuel Barber, Paul Hindemith, August Klughardt and György Ligeti.

2008 INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLE COMPETITION

The International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (ICMEC) has been created to provide young and mature chamber music ensembles from around the world with an opportunity to compete with each other in their respective age groups and music categories and to perform in the best music halls of New England and New York. The first ICMEC was in 2005 and attracted over forty chamber ensembles. Read more about the 2005 ICMEC. The 2008 ICMEC attracted more than seventy chamber ensembles that included musicians from Italy, Argentina, Germany, Japan, Spain, Canada, Israel and the United States. These ensembles came from the most prestigious musical institutions, such as New England Conservatory, Boston University, Boston Conservatory, Yale University, Eastman School of Music, Hartt School of Music, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Phillips Academy, Mannes College of Music, University of Houston - Moores School of Music, Rice University - Shepherd School of Music and many others.

The ICMEC auditions were held at Boston University in April and May of this year. Groups competed in five age groups and nine chamber music categories including piano duos, piano trios, piano quartets, sonata duos, jazz and folk ensembles, ensembles with winds and string and vocal ensembles. The First Prize Winners performed in an awards concert, May 26 in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, where a Grand Prize Winner was selected by a Panel of Honorable Judges. The Third Prize Winners were honored in an awards ceremony at The First Church in Boston on May 24, 2008. Several ensembles received an Honorable Mention Certificate.

ARABESQUE WINDS WIN GRAND PRIZE

at the 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition.

After a long and thorough deliberation the grand prize jury panel declared Arabesque Winds the 2008 ICMEC Grand Prize Winner. Arabesque Winds consisting of Deidre Huckabay, flute, Liz Spector, oboe, Isabel Kim, clarinet, Eryn Bauer, bassoon and Sophie Goluses, horn gave an astounding performance in the final round of the 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall performing Sechs Bagatelle by György Ligeti.
